Thursday, 18th August 2011/ The Story of Diwali

The last day of crafts before the Great Show was the T shirt day. I did some stars designs for felt stamps they were glued over cardboard, to hold without getting all the paint. Then Cut out some shape for stencils made of card paper I had castles, monkeys, princes, rainy days, thunders and clouds, they could be used with brushes and the textiles paint or with sponge rollers. Really good fun and you should have seen the faces of proud when they were finally dry!!

Wednesday was the most challenging day. This craft is a great reward for the kids; really easy and great fun, but it needs a lot of work in advance. There are many parts involved and they all have to be ready at the same time. When they coloured all the parts (already tied together) we put the stick and give it to them. Everybody sat on the stage and each one of them went out to the front to say everything about their new friend. What’s their name, their favourite food and to show us what trick they could do. Was wonderful, they stand up there and told us everything about them like if they new each other for ever. Was really difficult to keep them away from them, whorth trying this one. Good luck!

15th August 2011 Anansy the Spider

On Monday every kid decided which animal preferred between tigers and elephants for us to prepare for Tuesday.  After playing with the different animals from the story every kid found on their place half a box and the pieces ready to construct, some part were meant to stick with glue and others ensemble like the ears and the eyes. It was almost unnecessary to tell them that in the world of their imaginations animal can be of any colour and pattern they could think. You can see the great pieces they did.

Stanley knives (for the adults)

Water based Glue

Waterbased paint

Everyday from 10 am to 3 pm we worked based on a different story  (The 12 months, Splat the Cat, The story of Diwali and Anansy the spider). Jenny was in charge of the different Drama exercise and games and I proposed a different craft in relation to the story, that we developed in two parts, on in the morning and one in the afternoon.

14th august / The 12 Months

The first day we started a calendar in which we would work along the week. We had to create 12 drawings one for each months. The kids wanted to know what happen in each month, what weather is it, is it holiday or halloween?

Materials

Watercolours

Brushes/sponges (1£ packets)

Crayons (preferable good quality, staedler or crayola)

Colour card (12 per kid)

Coloured A4 paper (we had printed in advance the months with the different days)

plastic bowls for the water

Scissors

Cotton string

At the end of the week most of the kids were really motivated to finish off every drawing to show their parents their creations that will  be hang at home after the workshops.
